South African Artist Lee Molenaar

18 January 2012 by jacques Leave a Comment

Born on the 22nd of May 1979 , South African artist Lee Molenaar spent most of his childhood surrounded by nature.  Imposing mountains, Atlantic and Indian oceans, cosy valleys and the vast silent stretches of the Karoo, all had a lasting effect on the way Lee approaches a subject.  His fascination with observing the passionate love affair between light and atmosphere was born out of the countless hours he spent studying the effects natural light has on its given environment.

1998 saw Lee moving to Cape Town , where after attempting to study interior design at the local Technikon , he decided to follow his passion for painting an become a full time artist .  After a series of collaborative exhibitions, (showing Lee’s paintings and waxwork lighting concepts), trying his hand at commercially farming ostriches and cultivating medicinal herbs for the local traditional healing market,  Lee embarked for London in 2003 to establish himself as an professional artist.

Lee’s work:  Current Collection | Landscapes | Figure Studies | Still Life | Conceptual & Abstract | Sketches

Pete's Diner - Sonstraal Heights - Durbanville
Pete's Diner - Sonstraal Heights - Durbanville

How many times before haven’t we been disappointed by pizza franchises who just can’t seem to live up to their advertised promises of great-tasting, value for money offerings? Some of them come with ridiculously stacked pizzas at even more ridiculous prices, while others’ pizzas simply just aren’t that satisfying – leaving you thinking “why do I keep ordering from them again?”

This is exactly why Pete’s Diner in Sonstraal Heights, Durbanville is such a big hit with the locals – and I’m sure even some living further away. Situated in the Sonstraal Spar centre just off Langeberg Road, Pete’s Diner is always buzzing with people hungry for their delectable pizzas. Not only do they make the tastiest wood fired pizza I’ve ever come across, but their prices are also very reasonable; and – on top of that – their service is fast and friendly. Check out the menu here

Best of all – from Monday to Wednesdays Pete’s Diner is running a special where you can pick up any two medium (23cm) Classic pizzas for only R75; or any large (30cm) Classic pizzas for R85.

Horatio Caine

The man the legend Horatio Caine, protector of the innocent, master of all things ridiculous!

Wikipedia on Horatio:

Born in 1957, Caine’s parents named him after author Horatio Alger. Before he moved to Miami, Caine worked in New York City as detective with the NYPD. It was there that he killed the man who murdered his mother: his own father. In 1995, while on the job, he was stabbed while investigating a case in which children were locked in closets while their parents were murdered.

Urban Dictionary on Horatio:

Simply the coolest investigator in Miami, Horatio Caine is more than a man, he is a way of life with five basic rules:

  1. Stand with Hands on hips
  2. Place sunglasses on for dramatic effect, then remove them, and repeat (applicable inside as well as out)
  3. Never fully address people by looking them in the eye, you’re too cool for that.
  4. Have a dramatic pause in your speech.
  5. Shoot first/45 Degree turn/walk out of camera frame
