Upcycling

Upcycling is the process of converting waste materials or useless products into new materials or products of better quality or a higher environmental value.

The first recorded use of the term upcycling was by Reiner Pilz of Pilz GmbH in an interview by Thornton Kay of Salvo in 1994.

Upcycling is the opposite of downcycling, which is the other half of the recycling process. Downcycling involves converting materials and products into new materials of lesser quality. Most recycling involves converting or extracting useful materials from a product and creating a different product or material - Wikipedia.

If the thought of swimming with sharks has you excited rather than terrified, you’re in luck. There are many places to encounter these often misunderstood predators, with Cape Town, South Africa being the best place for shark spotting.

As a well-known shark hotspot, the waters of Cape Town’s coastline are home to many different shark species. False Bay in particular is where the famous ‘flying’ Great white sharks are found. These sharks prey on marine species such as seals, which are found in abundance near Seal Island. The sight of a huge Great white launching itself out of the water after its prey is not one you will forget easily. While swimming with sharks such as Great whites is not possible without the safety of a cage, the chance to view these giant creatures in their natural habitat is one that every nature enthusiast should experience at least once in their lives.  Read More

In my presentation I try to highlight what these changes mean to a typical Google User and Brands. I have included tips on what Brands can do with their Google+ Pages to make sure they stay on top of this change as well as how this plays into SEO. You can download the presentation here.

South African Artist Lee Molenaar

Born on the 22nd of May 1979 , South African artist Lee Molenaar spent most of his childhood surrounded by nature.  Imposing mountains, Atlantic and Indian oceans, cosy valleys and the vast silent stretches of the Karoo, all had a lasting effect on the way Lee approaches a subject.  His fascination with observing the passionate love affair between light and atmosphere was born out of the countless hours he spent studying the effects natural light has on its given environment.

1998 saw Lee moving to Cape Town , where after attempting to study interior design at the local Technikon , he decided to follow his passion for painting an become a full time artist .  After a series of collaborative exhibitions, (showing Lee’s paintings and waxwork lighting concepts), trying his hand at commercially farming ostriches and cultivating medicinal herbs for the local traditional healing market,  Lee embarked for London in 2003 to establish himself as an professional artist.

Lee’s work:  Current Collection | Landscapes | Figure Studies | Still Life | Conceptual & Abstract | Sketches
